About.com Guide to Home Repair

Bob Formisano, AIA, is an architect and builder who has managed commercial and residential projects valued at over $175 million. In 1996, he left a national architectural firm as vice president and opened his own business, helping companies successfully construct their new building projects. Bob has been working on homes for over 25 years. He loves and appreciates houses and their design, construction, repair, and renovation.

Experience:

In 1982, Bob worked on the development of preservation and repair guidelines for the historic Ford Homes in Dearborn, MI. These homes were built between 1919 and 1921. During that time, Bob had plenty of first-hand experience with repairs of old systems, such as galvanized water pipes, "knob and tube" wiring, and others. Since then, he's lived in numerous older homes and has actively redesigned, renovated, and repaired them all. In 2006, he and his wife built a new timber frame home based on green/sustainable design principles with a focus on energy conservation.

Education:

Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture degree from Lawrence Technological University. He is a licensed architect and licensed residential builder. A large portion of Bob's practice involves managing the work of contractors, and he has additional training in construction law and negotiations.
